We hope you are all having a wonderful and relaxing Fall Break! When we return on Monday, we will be kicking off an exciting week. Watch for updates on our Fall Open House at Huffer on Thursday October 23rd. We will also have our first field trip on Friday October 24th. This field trip will be a bus trip around Muncie!
This week at Huffer, all the classrooms have been participating in fire safety week. We have had firefighters come to speak with the children and explain to them what they wear and how they can keep safe. In MP3, we have had plenty of exciting fire safety activities! We have practiced the phrase "Don't Hide, Get Outside!" as well as put out sight word fires. Our future fire fighters have been exploring the letter "F" and have found and made tons of words that begin with "F." Kindergarten Emerging Scholars have been busy with their Daily 5 activities. Students are becoming more proficient with the Daily 5 everyday, and have begun successfully choosing and monitoring their own center time. Our children have been taking turns working on the computer program Lexia with great success! Thank you for sharing your scholar with us!
We have Movie Night on Friday! Pick up will still be at Huffer at the usual time, but if you must pick up early come to Longfellow.
Have a safe Fall Break, and we will see you after break for more learning fun!
Last week students started working on the first component of our Daily 5 reading program, Read to Self. Students learned what read to self looks like as well as how to be successful readers during this time. Even though our students are beginning readers, they are practicing strategies that make great readers like: reading the pictures, finding familiar words, and telling their own stories. Students began reading three minutes everyday without getting up or stopping reading, which was a difficult but manageable task for this incredible class! This week, we have already increased our read to self time by one minute and introduced writing into our Daily 5 regiment! Our emerging scholars created some awesome illustrations and worked on writing words based on the sounds they hear. Our students worked for three minutes diligently on this task, and will increase their endurance in the coming weeks! We are so proud of all their hard work and are excited to continue adding to their Daily 5 centers.
We also introduced another habit of happy children today! We read "When I Grow Up" by Al Yankovic and discussed "begin with the end in mind" or planning ahead and goal setting. This will be an overarching topic for our week, and our year as we build on the ideas of students dreams!
